About Artist:
Vebjorn Sand, born March 11, 1966, is a Norwegian painter and artist, known for his paintings as well as his public arts projects, such as the Da Vinci Project, and the Kepler Star monument (Norwegian Peace Star) at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen Vebj?rn Sand has a burning desire to get us humans to see, and perhaps most, to wake up from indifference, never to forget important events in our close history. Vebj?rn has even stated that one of the instruments he has used to lure the viewer into the images is comparable to German propaganda. Impressionistic instrument that gives an impression of idyll and gusto. You think you can get into a world that's good. The reality is something completely different.
The famous American art critic Donald Kuspit describes the Sands imagery as a tremendous feat from a picturesque perspective. But as important as the purely technically picturesque achievement, Vebj?rn's images are important in the way that they remind the modern audience of something they are about to forget; That one cannot bypass the story just because one has become fashionable. Sands wonderful paradox is that he makes the story alive and topical to us ? not as a mechanical past we think we no longer have to deal with, but a topical narrative all generations must deal with.
About Artwork:
Thi series by Vebjorn Sand has received great attention in both New York, Berlin and Norway. Central to this series is the individual and our ability to stand up to the masses, even when it means sacrificing our own lives. Moments where our morals and humanity are put to the test. Here are Hugo Sperrle and Karl Fiehler who watch a horse racing race in Munich in 1939. The bombing of Guernica created fear throughout the Western world and gave Hitler advantages in his power-policy play in the years before the outbreak of World War II.
The terrorist bombing of the religious and political headquarters in northern Spain became the first page news worldwide. The great powers were shocked that the Luftwaffe could demolish an entire city like this.
Hitler's terrorist demonstration was effective and when his troops in 1938 went into the Sudetenland and Austria, the rest of Europe stood permissive and watched. Mayor Karl Fiehler was the host under the Munich Agreement 30. September 1938. Hugo Sperrle was the supreme commander of the Legion Condor and was directly responsible for the forces that bombed Guernica. The Baskins actively worked to get the bombing of Guernica in as part of the Nuremberg process. They did not succeed because this judicial settlement was to explicitly act on the occupied territories of Europe. Therefore, Hugo Sperrle was not convicted in Nuremberg and never charged with the attack on Guernica.
The other directly responsible for the massacre was Lieutenant Hans W. Asmus, Colonel Hans Henning Freiherr von Beust, Colonel Karl von Knauer and the Lieutenant Rudolf von Moreau. These were also never brought to court for their war crimes. Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen, who was head of Legion Condors Air forces, died of a brain tumor in 1945. One of the grotesque aspects of the bombing is that it is said to be Goring's birthday present for Hitler. Goring wanted to show that the air force was essential to victory at war. A picture of the bombed city was given to Hitler as a birthday present at a parade in Berlin the same year.
